Environmental impact review ordered ahead of Sonoma County, Calif., planting

Artesa Vineyards & Winery owns 300 acres in Sonoma County, Calif., but can't yet plant its vineyard because a judge has requested a redo of its environmental review. Artesa argues that the land is zoned for agriculture, while conservationists say it has returned to nature. The case set a precedent because it is the first time that the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has had to review a forest-to-vineyard project.
