Investors finding value in cybersecurity as consolidation intensifies

The drive for network security in the enterprise has led to a spike in investment activity in the sector, according to a new report from CB Insights that finds cybersecurity is second only to social media as the area of the tech industry generating the most buzz on Wall Street. The report detailed a more than 75% increase in merger and acquisition activity among cybersecurity firms from 2010 to 2012, and found that 78 firms either went public or were bought out by a larger competitor during the 12 months beginning September 2012.
