South Africa falling short of Mandela's education goals

The late Nelson Mandela sought to improve education in South Africa as he led the country from apartheid to democracy. The country's schools, however, are languishing in international rankings and reportedly are plagued by inadequate infrastructure, corruption and a questionable funding system. Still, there are bright spots, such as increased school enrolment and the establishment of basic standards for schools this year.
