TEDCity2.0: Cities can boost democracy with public transit

Enrique Peñalosa, former mayor of Bogota, Colombia, says cities should invest in public transportation by providing bus and bike lanes, thereby increasing democracy. "Protected bikeways ... are a powerful symbol of democracy, because they show that a citizen on a $30 bicycle is equally important to one in a $30,000 car," he said in a presentation at TEDCity2.0.
