Housing starts reach 20-year high

Housing starts rose about 4.5% in November to a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 2.07 million, the highest in nearly two decades, the Commerce Department estimated this week. Single-family home construction rose about 3.3% to a record 1.69 million seasonally adjusted annualized rate, and construction of large apartment buildings rose about 6.3% to a 335,000 pace.
