San Francisco schools chief to stay in job through June 2007

The San Francisco Board of Education voted 4-2 last week to extend Superintendent Arlene Ackerman's contract through June 2007. While the majority praised Ackerman's success in boosting test scores and improving the district's accounting system, critics complained she had not been sufficiently critical of federal policies nor had she explored testing alternatives.
