Sexual abstinence discussions expand beyond health classes

The Wake County (N.C.) School Board yesterday voted 5-3 to give preliminary support to a policy requiring school employees teach abstinence whenever sexually-themed subjects are discussed, regardless of the class or grade. The proposed policy's 11 rules include forbidding teachers to encourage or demonstrate the use of contraceptives.
