Comprehensive care needed for cancer patients, experts say

An Institute of Medicine panel released a report that recommends providers determine whether cancer patients are experiencing social or psychological problems, which can impact treatment. Many people who receive cancer diagnoses have difficulty thinking clearly, lack knowledge about their condition, and have trouble getting to and paying for medical services, one panel member said.
