Florida insurance rates may decline if no severe storm strikes

Insurance rates for Florida homeowners will remain steady or decline in 2008 as long as a major hurricane does not hit the state. The increasing number of private insurers in the market may prompt lawmakers to reconsider the future of state-run Citizens Property Insurance, the insurer of last resort.
