Many casualties of the current economic crisis are seeking support via communities on Facebook and LinkedIn. "These new channels are providing a sense of community in an environment where there is a sudden, almost compelled, need ... not to feel alone," says Sherry Turkle, a professor of social studies of science and technology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Announcing your business problems for all to see might seem counterintuitive, but social networks can provide cheap therapy, good advice and even new customers.
