Officials discover H5N1 bird flu strain in Chinese province

Chinese agriculture officials have discovered a deadly strain of the H5N1 bird flu virus in poultry from two areas of Jiangsu province. The officials have ordered the slaughter of 377,000 chickens and banned poultry imports and exports in the affected areas. Bird flu outbreaks recently have been reported in India, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
