Yahoo! announces limits on data retention

Yahoo!'s announced on Wednesday that it would limit retention of some user data gleaned from searches to 90 days -- a shorter period than Google and Microsoft retain certain information that can be used to identify users. While search engines have argued that the information is necessary for ad targeting, regulators in Europe and some U.S. officials have been urging leading search engines to curtail their retention of personal data.
