Basel panel might hold banks more accountable for risk assignment

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is sceptical of how banks are assessing the chances that they will face losses in an effort to skirt capital requirements. To combat that, the global regulator is exploring ways to demand greater disclosure. The Basel Committee says financial institutions are assigning widely varying degrees of risk to the same assets.
