Much Still Unsettled In Negotiations Over Philadelphia Schools

Pennsylvania Gov. Mark Schweiker and Philadelphia Mayor John Street meet today to discuss a possible partnership for running the city's schools. The state plans to take over the district Dec. 22 whether or not Street and Schweiker reach an agreement. Separately, a coalition of labor unions and community groups was expected to file a lawsuit today challenging the state's bid to install for-profit Edison Schools as a consultant to the system.
