Student sues California district for sexual-orientation bias

An eighth-grader has sued the Banning Unified School District for expelling her from gym class for being a lesbian. The ACLU, which is representing the student, says the case is one of the first involving the Student Safety and Violence Prevention Act, a 2000 California law.
