Centro defaults on $1.1 billion debt

Centro Properties has defaulted on $1.1 billion in debt and could go bankrupt if liquidity worsens before Feb. 15 when its bank extensions come due, CEO Andrew Scott said. The company may be forced to sell some of its properties, including some U.S. shopping malls, to pay down debt and the cost of refinancing.
