Designers find a good fit with storefront model

Designers are cashing in on the "buy local" trend, selling their fashions and jewelry directly to consumers, who appreciate the higher level of personal attention and lower markups. On such entrepreneur, Sara Campbell, got into retailing when she stumbled across a storefront while looking for a new workspace. Though she still wholesales her tailored womenswear to boutiques, she says direct sales to consumers now provide the bulk of her profits, and she expects the localization trend will continue to spread. "I think society is going back to it -- you know, the old barber shop," she says.
