States consider "diverging diamond" interchanges

Dozens of states are considering use of a "diverging diamond" interchange design created by an engineering graduate student. The Missouri Department of Transportation is building its second interchange of this type, which includes curved approach roads on either side and vehicles temporarily driving on the left. Construction of the first interchange took about half the amount of time needed for building a traditional interchange.
