Students with special needs from three Georgia schools competed in the recent DeKalb County Special Olympics floor hockey tournament. Educators and participants say the competition -- one of several Special Olympics events open to students with special needs in the area -- offers a sense of belonging. "It puts a smile of their face and pride in their heart," one special-education teacher said. "This kind of event helps the kids build self-esteem and helps them feel like part of the school."
