Study warns diabetic youths not to overdo carb counting

A study found parents and their diabetic children may be putting too much emphasis on carbohydrate counting at the expense of a healthy diet. Researchers said carb counting is important for insulin dosage control in Type 1 diabetes, but some families are opting for processed foods rather than whole foods or are limiting fruits and whole grains because of their carbohydrate content.
