Shell's Alaskan drilling plan gains BOEM clearance

Royal Dutch Shell's Chukchi Sea drilling project has secured conditional approval from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. The company still needs to obtain some essential approvals for its plan, which involves drilling as many as six exploration wells, BOEM said. "We will continue to work closely with agencies across the federal government to ensure that Shell complies with the conditions we have imposed on its Exploration Plan and all other applicable safety, environmental protection and emergency response standards," BOEM Director Tommy Beaudreau said in a statement.
