Simulator helps Wash. firefighters train for propane fires

Navy Region Northwest Fire and Emergency Services firefighters trained Friday at a mobile propane-fire simulator in Bangor, Wash. "Having a live-fire trainer gives us an opportunity to remain proficient in our firefighting skills -- fire-stream application, feeling the heat, having the smoke reduce visibility, creating realistic scenarios," said Navy Region Northwest Capt. Brian Dorr. The unit burns propane, so "it's relatively safe, benign environmentally and a fantastic training tool," said training officer Brian Pille.
