Early applicants: How to improve admissions chances after deferral

Colleges may be seeing a rising number of early applicants, but many will be deferred to the regular spring decision pool, writes Brennan Barnard, director of college counseling at The Derryfield School in Manchester, N.H., in this blog post. "I encourage students to view this as an ... outcome ... that puts the ball back in their court to make their case," Barnard explains. Among other things, he advises that students follow deferral instructions, keep their grades up, and submit updated test scores to improve their regular admissions chances.
