State Dept. selects participants for its Design Excellence program

Eleven architectural firms were selected from among 88 applicants to become part of the State Department's Design Excellence program. The chosen architects will conceptualize the look of future diplomatic buildings, embassies and consulates, while others were selected to renovate and rehabilitate existing structures. BNIM and Weiss/Manfredi were selected for both types of projects, which indicates the beginning of a new era for the State Department's "one-size-fits-all buildings in fortified exurban areas."
