Medicare hires private auditors to recoup overpayments

In a three-year experiment, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is recruiting private auditors in California, Florida and New York to help prevent billions of dollars in Medicare overpayments. Under the Recovery Audit Contract demonstration project, the auditors will be rewarded with a portion of the money they recoup when the overpayments are discovered.
