More Michigan parents opt for charter schools

Charter school enrollments in Michigan surged by 13% last year, as families flocked to schools that they considered safer and more personal than local ones. A spokesman for the school system in Detroit, where charter enrollments grew by 22.5% last year, says parents don't realize that academic standards are often higher in traditional schools than in charters.
