Federal government pitches in on New York transit systems

The federal government has agreed to provide billions of dollars for a Long Island Rail Road connection to Grand Central Terminal and for a Second Avenue Subway in Manhattan. The $2.6 billion provided for the Long Island Rail Road will give commuters a direct ride to the east side of Manhattan, and another $693 million will allow for a new Second Avenue subway.
