Many parents appear unaware of children's weight problems

Many of the roughly 2,000 parents surveyed by the University of Michigan said their children were "about the right weight," but when researchers examined the data, they found 25% were overweight or obese. Nevertheless, just 13% of parents of obese 6- to 11-year-olds characterized their child as very overweight, and 31% of parents whose obese children were ages 12 to 17 identified them as having a serious weight problem.
