Delta announces Australia flights, challenging United, Qantas

For the first time since 1991, a U.S. carrier will serve all six continents when Delta Air Lines begins new service to Australia on July 1, 2009. With Australian startup V Australia set to begin its own service to Los Angeles in February, analysts expect new pricing pressure on a lucrative route that has long been dominated by United Airlines and Qantas Airways.
