Many business leaders caught in Japan's "lost decade" of the 1990s elected to simply carry on and wait for recovery. The multinational companies of today, this paper argues, could help themselves by emulating the few Japanese companies that changed their ways and prospered. The old prescription may work again: Reduce supply, pursue repeat customers and embrace consolidation.
