New politicos should come out on own terms

The Washington Blade, in this editorial, urges any LGBT people who are part of the incoming Obama administration or newly elected to Congress who are not open about their sexual orientation to avoid becoming the next Mark Foley or Larry Craig, two lawmakers whose allegedly closeted status harmed their political careers. "A few words of advice to those newly elected, closeted politicians: come out on your terms now and spare yourselves the inevitable embarrassment of becoming the next Foley or Craig," editor Kevin Naff writes.
