House blocks Senate bill on provider payment, payroll-tax cuts

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 229-193 to reject a Senate bill meant to defer the 27.4% Medicare provider payment cut and extend an expiring payroll tax break for two months. If needed, the CMS is likely to delay processing claims in January to allow Congress more time to avert the cut.
