Court will hear AA debate on pilot-retirement benefits

A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge will hear both sides of a debate about retirement benefits for American Airlines pilots who will be eligible for retirement when the airline emerges from bankruptcy. The hearing is regarding an option for a lump-sum pension payment that was part of the contract for a group of pilots hired in 1983. Pilots hope to retain the option, but comments from AMR's creditors committee say removing the option "is a necessary step."
