Pitch change adds $200K to roof replacement cost at Conn. school

A state law in Connecticut requires roofs of public buildings to have a pitch of at least a half-inch per foot. This will add about $200,000 to the cost of a gym roof replacement project at Fitch High School in Groton. The initial plan was to replace the roof with one having the same quarter-inch per foot slope as the current roof. The cost for that was $625,000. The pitch change requires installation of additional drainage and ventilation under the new roof.
