Many patients unaware of diabetes-related vision loss

A study in JAMA Ophthalmology revealed almost 3 in 5 diabetes patients at risk of vision loss did not remember being counseled by their doctors about the link between the conditions. Researchers also found about 2 out of 5 patients did not get a complete eye exam with dilated pupils in the past year, while a third reported suffering from diabetes-related vision loss. "We have to really strengthen our efforts at educating people who have diabetes about the eye complications," said study leader Dr. Neil Bressler.
