Des Moines teachers urge crackdown on absenteeism

At some Des Moines high schools this semester, more than 40% of students have missed the same class at least seven times, a pattern of truancy that under district rules should have -- but hasn't always -- triggered more serious interventions to kick in. Frustrated teachers say district policies should be strictly enforced or dropped altogether.
