The extended-stay lodging segment saw an average annual change in supply of 0.9% between 2000 and 2006, with the number of rooms increasing at 5.1% annually. This article at 4Hoteliers says these figures -- coupled with occupancy premiums, high profit margins, consumer acceptance and relatively simple operations -- have made the segment attractive to developers.
