Analysis: Teacher-tenure evaluations lack rigor in L.A. schools

New teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District have been awarded tenure based on an inconsistent -- and in many cases nonexistent -- review system, according to an analysis by the Los Angeles Times. After conducting interviews with teachers and analyzing district data, the newspaper found that teacher evaluations mostly consisted of a single classroom visit from an administrator and did not include any information about student achievement. Under the system, fewer then 2% of new teachers are denied tenure, the newspaper found.
