A new public high school in Phoenix with a hands-on science and technology curriculum is scheduled to open in the fall, but it is having difficulties generating student interest. Officials are hoping for an inaugural freshman class of 150 students at the Center for Research in Engineering, Science and Technology, but have received only about 60 applications. The district plans to work with marketers to promote the school. Curriculum plans call for students to develop biotechnology and research projects that incorporate laboratory time.
