Basel III will slightly trim economic growth, regulators say

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's capital rules for financial institutions will have a "modest" effect on global economic growth, regulators said. "The transition to stronger capital standards is likely to have a modest impact on aggregate output," the Basel Committee and the Financial Stability Board said. The regulatory bodies are addressing concerns that Basel III will prompt banks to rein in lending and threaten the economic recovery.
