Preparing students with disabilities for the college experience

Students with disabilities may face particular challenges when attending traditional college programs that are not subject to the same requirements as kindergarten to grade 12 schools under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, says Elizabeth Hamblet, author of "7 Steps for Success: High School to College Transition Strategies for Students With Disabilities." Students and parents should do careful research when choosing a post-secondary school, where they can expect a more independent learning experience, Hamblet suggests.
