Shoppers are encouraged by positive economic data

Positive economic news has given the stock market a boost and spurred consumer spending for the holidays. Sales at chain stores rose by 3.4% last week, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. "Shoppers are coming out in full force in the last stretch of the holiday shopping season," says IHS economist Chris G. Christopher Jr.
