Apple's annual holiday shutdown of the iTunes App Store, during which the company locks up its rankings of applications, begins today, Dean Takahashi reports. Developers of mobile apps are especially keen to have their product rank highly in the App Store for the holidays. "[I]f you're in the top 5 or top 10 in the App Store rankings, then you get this extra exponential growth because everyone's looking at you," said Chartboost CEO Maria Alegre.
