6 states to receive $280M total in early-learning grants

Federal officials announced Thursday that six states will share $280 million through the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge. Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Vermont will receive third-round grants, joining 14 states that won grants in earlier rounds. "By investing in high-quality early learning through programs like Race to the Top-Early Leaning Challenge, we are able to close achievement gaps, provide life-transforming opportunities for children, and strengthen and build a thriving middle class," Education Secretary Arne Duncan said.
