Mass. city council will vote on plastic-bag ban in January

A committee of the Cambridge, Mass., City Council has voted in favor of considering a plastic-bag ban, although a full-council vote will not happen until new members are sworn in next month. The proposed ordinance would require retailers to offer a recyclable paper bag or a reusable bag. Disposable plastic bags cause pollution, crowd landfills and threaten wildlife, Councilwoman Marjorie Decker says.
