The power of strategic niceness

When it comes to handling new hires, niceness is the best strategy, researchers say. A study found that workers' performance during their first three months in a new job is largely determined by interactions during their first few days. Workers who failed to receive sufficient support early in their tenure were more likely to be tardy, absent or quit, researchers found.
