Publix debuts prototype store with cafe, cooking school

Publix Super Markets has unveiled a prototype store that features a cooking school, a personal shopping service with the option of delivery and a cafe. The 59,000-square-foot store in Orlando, Fla., is 30% larger than the average Publix and is expected to attract customers from within a 35-mile radius. "This is a very smart move for Publix, and I'm sure they're going to use a lot of ... what works and what doesn't work and roll out things in other stores in the chain," said SupermarketGuru.com and The Food Journal Editor Phil Lempert.
