Survey: Environmentalists, politics trumping science in chemical regulations

Politics and environmental advocacy have a greater influence on efforts to manage chemical risks than science, according to a recent survey of three professional societies focused on risk management. And when scientific data are used, they are often not available for independent analysis, according to the survey, which was funded in part by the American Chemistry Council. Industry concerns were found to be "the least influential factor in current risk management," this article says.
