California ends efforts to regulate Web real estate

The California Department of Real Estate declined to appeal a U.S. District Court ruling that ended the state's ability to require that operators of real estate Web sites obtain brokers' licenses. California does not require newspapers which publish real estate classifieds to be licensed, and the court accepted the argument of attorneys for that the Internet should be treated no differently from other media.
