Florida bridges lower priority than road widening

While Florida has received millions in stimulus funds, only a fraction will go toward repairing obsolete bridges. In Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties, 89 bridges have been rated as deficient or obsolete, but only one bridge has received stimulus funds. Public works officials say the stimulus requirement for "shovel-ready" projects limits the number of bridges eligible for funds.
